Gowa Sungguminasa TourismGowa Regency is the neighboring with the capital of South Sulawesi provience Makassar. Formerly it was the center of Makassar Kingdom. Its famous ruler was Sultan Hasanuddin, who was entittled "Ayam Jantan dari Timur". He once achieved the climax of the golden ages and he was very famous as the conqueror of other kingdoms outside South Sulawesi. The following object are what left to show the glory and heritage of the Gowa Kindom.

Start century -15 Gowa Kingdom is a great maritime empire of influence in the waters of the archipelago. Even from this kingdom also emerged a national hero who holds Roosters from the East, the Sultan Hasanuddin, the brave King of Gowa XIV against the Dutch East India Company in the early years of colonization in Indonesia. However, despite the kingdom, Gowa no longer prevail, the kingdom is capable of providing the greatest legacy, namely the port of Makassar. Fort Somba Opu (Benteng Somba Opu).
gowa01_sombaopu_bentengFort of Somba Opu hold the same position as the Fort Rotterdam. Both of them are the inheritance of the strong and heroic kingdoms in South Sulawesi. In 1525, The Sultan of Gowa IX named Daeng Matanre Karaeng Tumapa‘ risi‘ kallonna built a castle that was called Somba Opu. In the middle of the 16th century, the castle became a very busy spices port and a commercial center where many merchants from Asia and Europe anchored there. On June 24th, 1669, it was conquered to Dutch colonial.
Basicly this place located into the territory of Makassar, but for cultural history the Fort Somba Opu was in Gowa Regency.

Syech Yusuf Graveyard.

gowa02_syech_yusufSyech Yusuf is one the famous Moslem heroes. He was widely known by the people of South Sulawesi as "Tuanta Salamaka". He was a knowledgeable man who actively introduced and spreaded the teaching of Islam in several country. Suprisingly his grave are found in South Africa, Ceylon (Srilanka), Banten (Java, Indonesia), and in Gowa (South Sulawesi, Indonesia).
Syech Yusuf was born on July 3, 1626 in Gowa, persevering against the Dutch colonialists, was exiled to South Africa (Cape Town) and died at the age of 73 years on May 23, 1699, buried on a farm in the District Zanvliet Stellenbosch, South Africa. At the request of the King of Gowa, Abdul Djalil on April 5, 1795, the tomb of Syech Yusuf moved to Kobbang not far from the Mosque Katangka.

gowa03_masjid_katangkaThe old Mosque of Katangka is located not far away from the grave of Syech Yusuf and the grave of Sultan Hasanuddin. This Mosque was built by King of Gowa XIV named Imangngerangi Daeng Manrabia Alauddin (Sultan Alauddin) the first king of Gowa who embrace Islam. This is the first mosque in sulawesi, built in the year 1603 and it resembles the architecture of Demak mosque.

Gowa King Palace (Museum Ballalompoa).
gowa04_ballalompoaThis is the Royal Palace of Gowa Kingdom and now it has functioned as a museum. Built in 1939 and has been restored in the years 1978 - 1980, located at Jl. Sultan Hasanuddin 48, Sungguminasa. This museum you can find historical object, musical indtrument, traditional clothes, weapon and various collections of the kingdom ceremonial equipment.

gowa04_makam_sultan_hasanuddinSultan Hasanuddin (1629 - 1670) he was a king of Gowa who devoted all of his life to fight againts the Dutch. His Grave as among the graves of the Kings of Gowa. The grave of the namely king is made of huge stone.
All of the graves in this yard, the grave of Sultan Hasanuddin was the large one. All the kings graves lie among the tree of fragrant "Kamboja" and scarlet "Flamboyan". Out site the grave border a large stone which is claimed to be the place where the so-called "Tomanurung" was first fournd.

Malino.
gowa05_malinoThis fresh and fertile town is located at an altitude of around 850 meters on the slopes of the Bawakaraeng & Lompobatang mountains. Malino is beautiful located, surrounded by pine trees, green rice teraces and waterfalls. Historical viewed Malino was well known as a retreat for colonial Dutch, as the meeting place of East-Indonesian leaders who endorsed the Netherlands’ ill-fated plans for a federation and more recently, peace agreements have been struck for Maluku and Poso. The town is often visited during the weekends by local Makassar people. Passion fruit grows abundantly here. Malino is situated 75 km southern of Makassar, it takes about 2 hours drive. It is a recreation resort, there are many sorts of tropical flowers grow in this cold place. Malino also produce fruits and vegetables that are tropically grow on the slops of mount Bawakaraeng.

gowa_traditional_ceremony02Accera Kalompoang/Allangiri Kalompoang is a traditional ceremony to purify the heirlooms of Gowa Kingdom that are kept in the Balla Lompoa Museum. The core of the ceremony, in Makassar language name it Accera Kalompoang/Allangiri Kalompoang, purifying and weight measuring of salokoa (pure golden crown the kingdom of Gowa) which was made in the 14th century. This crown was worn for the first time by the King of Gowa name it Tumanurunga (The first king of Gowa) that was later symbolized in the inauguration of the next Kings of Gowa, Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Some of royal objects that are purified are a rattan spear horse tail haired, an old iron chopping knife (lasippo), a diamond-gold Kris (tatarapang), a sacred weapon as the authorized king attribute (sudanga), a dragon-head gold bracelet (ponto janga-jangaya), a grandeur necklace (kolara), pure gold earrings (bangkarak ta`roe), and a gold button (kancing gaukang). Besides those heirloom objects, there are imported objects that were kept and purified in the Balla Lompoa Museum as well, such as a necklace from Zulu Kingdom, Philippines, on the 16th century; three gold spears; a long berang manurung (chopping knife); a pure gold plate from British Kingdom in 1814 A.D; and a gold medal from Dutch.
