Lumajang Tourism Travel Guide and Tourist Information.

Lumajang is one of regencies that located on the south coast of East Java province. Lumajang is also called “Banana Town”. The regency of Lumajang is about 190 km from Surabaya, the capital of East Java Province.
The primary crop of Lumajang is rice which is followed closely by tobacco. The depictions on the crest give reference to these important industries in the life of people of the area. The depictions of the rice paddy and the cotton also seek to represent the aim to realize a prosperous and fair society where all can be involved in promoting the economic progress of the region. The numbers of items on the crest also give reference to the Proclamation of Independence of Indonesia. The star with five angles on the top portrays the Five Principles, which is the state philosophy and attitude of the nation of Indonesia. All Indonesians have a responsibility to hold these principles in high regard. For example, the first principle is believing in One God. The Indonesians are to swear to upholding these principles and should put them into practice in their lives.

Located at 112° 53’ - 113° 23’ east longitude and 7° 54’ - 7° 23’ south longitude. In the year 2000 the population was 965, 299 in an area of 179,090 km2. Lumajang is divided into 18 sub-districts and 200 smaller areas. The region is bordered in the north by Probolinggo Regency, in the east by Jember Regency, in the south by Indian Ocean and in the west by Malang Regency.

There is a group of people living with their specific social culture called Tenggerese who live in the village's of Ranupane, Argosari, and its surroundings. Their social culture must be kept everlasting to support the Unity in Diversity and as a tourist attraction as well.

Lumajang is one of tourism destination in East Java, it has a lot of famous tourism objects, such as; The Triangle Lake, which contains of three lakes (Ranu Klakah, Ranu Bedali, Ranu Pakis), Mount Semeru, which is the highest mount in Java Island, Watu Godeg Beach, Watu Gedeg Beach, Tlepuk Beach, Dampar Beach, and the others. Another tourism destination is a Tenggerese people living with their specific social culture and live in the village's of Ranupane, Argosari, and its surroundings. Their social culture must be kept everlasting to support the Unity in Diversity and as a tourist attraction as well.

Mount Semeru.
lumajang_mount_semeru_03Situated st 3,676 meters high and part of the Bromo – Tengger – Semeru National Park. Mount Semeru is Java’s highest mountain and it its most active volcanoes. Semeru sends up a column of thick smoke at a regular interval of five minutes. An active volcano, it is known for its breathtaking views of the sunrise, the sunset, and the volcano’s crater. Mount Semeru known also as Mahameru the Great Mountain, because it is very steep rising abruptly above the coastal plains of eastern Java. Maars containing crater lakes have formed along a line through the summit of the volcano. Semeru lies at the south end of the Tengger.
Typically eruptions occur every 20-30 minutes, with ash emissions to 100-400 m above the crater, and projectiles ejected onto the crater rim. The present activity center is at Jonggring Seloko, a crater that appears in the southeast part of Mahameru, and it is separated by a narrow saddle.
The eruption cloud is usually blown away by the wind. Large eruptions are often followed by generation of pyroclastic flows. Semeru volcano is the highest in Java and one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Semeru volcano has been the site of numerous deaths, the most recent being in August 2000.
Mount Semeru can be climbed over two days but it is a venture for serious trekkers only and requires a high level of physical fitness. A permit must obtained in advance and would be climbers should be very aware that the mountain will be off-limits during periods of eruptive activity.

Mandara Giri Temple.
lumajang_mandara_giri_temple_04Mandara Giri Temple is one of religious tourims in Lumajang that often visited by many pilgrimage. This great temple also save Lumajang history in the past. On this location a religious ceremony is held and performed by Hindus, who are primarily Balinese. They perform the "Memendak Thirtha" ceremony and the Mjejauman ceremony on Mount Semeru. The annual ceremonies usually heald on July. Balinese traditional dances are performed as part of those ceremonies. The temple is in located Sendoro district, about 25 km west of Lumajang.

Lake Semeru.
lumajang_semeru_lake_05Another naturally scenic pool in Lumajang is Lake Semeru, located in Nguter village, in Pasirian district, about 21 km from Lumajang. It has clear and hygienic water. Usually people visit on Sundays and on holidays occasion, especially on Idul Fitri and Lebaran Ketupat. Visitor can enjoy natural water source of Mount Semeru.
