Bondowoso Tourism Travel Guide and Tourist Information.

Bondowoso is one of regency in East Java, Indonesia, located in the Eastern part that belongs to Jember residency. Bondowoso regency is located on the curve position and surrounded by hills and mountains and it has beautiful scenery, refreshing and fascinating panorama.
The dominant residents in Bondowoso are Javanese and Madurese. The nearest largest city is Surabaya, approximately three hours drive away. Common in most provincial towns is a park in the city center, called "Alun-Alun". Bondowoso is no exception. In the backdrop of the park is a magnificent view of a mountain. Bondowoso is well known as the city of Tapai (Kota Tape). Because this regency is the original producer of this sweet food made from slightly fermented cassava.

Bondowoso also known as one of tourism destination in East Java, including; Mount Raung, Blawan waterfall, Coffee plantation, Polo Agung waterfall, Tancak Kembar waterfall, Tasnan swimming pool, Sarcophagus, Gerbong Maut monument, traditional foods, etc. But the famous and the special tourism object is Kawah Ijen / Ijen Crater that often visited by many tourists, both domestic and foreign tourists. For hiking enthusiasts and view natural sceneries.

Bondowoso is divided into three regions; West region (mountain region), Center region (upland plain and wavy) and East region (uplan plain region of Ijen).
The regency borders are :
Western part: Probolinggo Regency
Eastern part: Banyuwangi Regency
Southern part: Jember Regency
Northern part: Situbondo Regency.

Ijen Crater.
Ijen Crater is the world's largest highly acidic lake in Java and is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation in which sulfur-laden baskets are hand-carried from the crater floor. Coffee plantations cover much of the Ijen caldera floor, and tourists are drawn to its waterfalls, hot springs, and dramatic volcanic scenery.
The volcanic cone of Ijen dominates the landscape at the eastern end of Java. Crater of Ijen is filled by a spectacular turquoise blue lake, its surface streaked in wind-blown patterns of yellow sulphur.

Mount Raung.
Mount Raung lies east of Bondowoso on the edge of the giant ancient Ijen Crater. It is located within the Sumber Wringin village, Sumber Wringin district. Mount Raung is a big mount that unique and different with the other mountain in Java Island. The unique thing of mount Raung is its caldera, which about 500 meters depth and always smoked with sprinkle the fire.
Mount Raung is an old mount with the caldera in its peak and surrounded by many small hills, makes its panorama looks beautiful and fantastic. The scenery is very interesting as there are many types of plants and animals. The tour activity in this area is very interesting and it will become a good opportunity for visitors, especially those interested in mountain climbing. The peak of this mountain lies at 3,332 meters above sea level.

Blawan Waterfall.
Blawan Waterfall is located in Kalianyar village, Sempol district. It is about 52 km of Bondowoso town. Blawan Waterfall is the continuation of Kali Pahit River, which is also the disposal place of the water from Kawah Ijen, which contains of much sulfur. The water from Blawan Waterfall goes down to the earth then it shows up again in Asembagus, Situbondo district.
Blawan waterfall is surrounded by sharp cliffs and there is also stalagmite cave. It is believed that a long time ago this cave was often used for meditate. There are also macadamia plants in this area. Besides Blawan Waterfall, there is also a Dhamar Wulan Natural Pool and Blawan Natural Hot Spring.

Polo Agung Waterfall.
Poloagung waterfall is located in Sukorejo village, Sumber Wringin district, about 40 km east of Bondowoso. It is near to Jampit Coffee Plantation area of society around. The waterfall height is about 30 meters and it has natural and beautiful scenery. There are green valleys and small meadows. It is equipped with three shelters that are positioned around the area.

Tancak Kembar Waterfall.
Tancak Kembar waterfall is located at 24 km from Bondowoso to the west in Andungsari village, Pakem district. The height of the waterfall is 77 meters. The function of this waterfall is not only as the tourism object but also for irrigation. Local legend holds that the left side of the waterfall is cared for by men and the right side is cared for by women. It is believed that if the visitor washes his or her face in the waterfall their skin will remain eternally youthful.
Tancak Kembar waterfall is also supported by the center of Arabica Coffee research around this place with an area of 180 hectares. This area is managed by Department of Agriculture.

Singo Ulung Dance.
Singo Ulung dance is a traditional art from Bondowoso regency that annual performed in Bondowoso anniversary. This traditional dance was created by a respected man named Singo. Singo was name of a person who came from Blambangan. He was ran from Blambangan to save himself and stayed in Blimbing village, Klabang district – Bondowoso. Singo Ulung and his wife Nyi Moena with Ki Jasiman, were helping and cooperating each other to create a prosperous life of society at Blimbing village. He cared about the rice field and the other public’s needed. Many people were proud about him. That’s why, finnaly he was choose to become the first head village of Blimbing village.
This dance has accompanied with special music that can make the audience feel astonished. This art together with Pojian art, Ojung art are always showed at the traditional ceremony namely “Bersih Desa Blimbing” which is always held every year (the month of Sya’ban / Ruwah). In the other hand, this art performance can be enjoyed in the annual of Bondowoso at 16 August for revery year.

Brass Industry (Kuningan).
Brass handicrafts are located in Cindogo village, Tapen district, about 12 km east of Bondowoso - Situbondo. There are many brass handicrafts in this area; for example, it is used to make the colorful decorations for house equipments, ceremony equipments (like Bokor and Gayung) and it also used for various souvenirs.
The brass handicraft of Bondowoso is very famous in tourists. It has beautiful colors and do not easily fade. Those products are also offered to other countries. They have been distributed and exported to many foreign countries.
